Having read more than a few pages of “Finnegans Wake” I can say the following in Esperanto:

Leginte pli ol kelkajn paĝojn de "Finnegans Wake"  
mi povas diri la jenajn en Esperanto:
 Tiel ekiĝis la plej granda turmentada angla rakontaĉo  
 de historio tuta homa, aŭ eble ĝi povus ŝajni al tiuj,  
 kiuj provis legi (almenaŭ glosi?) je "Finnegans Wake", de James Joyce.

Google translates my Esperanto rather nicely,

Thus, the biggest tormenting English story of all
human history began, or maybe it might seem to those
who tried to read (at least gloss) at “Finnegans Wake” by James Joyce.

but it doesn’t quite convey the disdain I imply by using the word “rakontaĉo” instead of “rakonto”. So I will offer my own translation of what I just said in Esperanto:

Google tradukas sufiĉe bone mian Esperanton,  
sed ĝi ne sufiĉe transdonas la malestimon, kiun mi  
implicas uzante la vorton "rakontaĉo" anstataŭ  
"rakonto". Do mi proponos mian propran anglan  
tradukon de tio, kion mi ĵus diris en Esperanto:

Thus began the biggest, most boring and tormenting
story of all human history, or so it might seem to
those who have tried to read (or at least gloss over)
“Finnegans Wake” by James Joyce.

Because “rakontaĉo” could mean boring story, or worse. Not only that, Google’s translation returns the phrase “(at least gloss) at” where the proper English should be something like “(at least gloss over)”. Here I use the Esperanto word “je” as a preposition in front of the English name of Joyce’s novel, instead of using the accusative form for the direct object.

Ĉar "rakontaĉo" povus signifi enuigan rakonton,  
aŭ pli malbone. Ne nur tio, la traduko de Google  
redonas la anglan frazon "(at least gloss) at" kie  
la taŭga devus esti io simila al "(at least gloss over)".  
Ĉi tie mi uzas la esperantan vorton "je" kiel prepozicion  
antaŭ la angla nomo de la romano de Joyce, anstataŭ uzi  
la akuzativan formon por la rekta objekto.
